Ink & Roll Fingerprints

Ink and roll fingerprinting is a way to obtain fingerprints of individuals in Canada. A person may require this for a variety of purposes. This includes when applying for a security license, volunteering, and those who need to change their name legally. Ink and roll fingerprinting can also be used when someone is trying to apply to a specific organization and wants to apply for citizenship.

Today, digital fingerprinting is another facility that people can utilize although it is not possible in all cases. For example, if a person requires foreign police checks, then a traditional ink and roll fingerprinting method is utilized. If the quality of the digital fingerprint is very poor then ink and roll fingerprinting is the only other option available.

In many countries, ink fingerprints are still largely accepted over digital fingerprints to issue clearance and certain certificates. In Qatar, people need to have ink fingerprints for the Police Clearance Certificate. Ink fingerprinting is required in UAE for a Certificate of Good Conduct. In Hong Kong, the Certificate of Non-Criminal Convictions or CNCC is issued only after ink fingerprinting has been accomplished.

When individuals are applying for fingerprinting that needs to be subsequently sent to the RCMP, the digital fingerprinting method will be used in almost all cases. The only time ink and roll fingerprinting will be required is when the applicant is specifically asked to provide it such as in the case of Federal Government Offices.

Earlier, the RCMP accepted mailed copies of ink fingerprints. However, since July 2014, the RCMP does not accept it as it currently accepts digital fingerprints only. Only in a handful of cases, it is permitted to mail copies of ink fingerprints to an accredited fingerprinting agency, like FingerPrinter, which will then digitize it before sending it digitally to the RCMP. When an individual is applying for fingerprinting, he can find out at that time if RCMP will allow mail copies of their ink fingerprints or not.

It is advisable to get clarity regarding this matter in advance to ensure the processing of the fingerprints by the RCMP. In cases where an individual was not allowed to send ink fingerprints but still sends them, the application won’t be processed and will be returned to the applicant.

You generally require two photo identification cards for you to be fingerprinted. One of them should contain your details such as name and address while the other must contain your photo.
